Jakarta (ANTARA) – Compared to the blue light produced gadgets, ultraviolet rays from the sun are more dangerous for eye health, explained JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics Vitreo-retina subspecialist Dr. Ferdiriva Hamzah, SpM(K).

“It has been proven by studies that ultraviolet, UVA, UVB, blue light produced by ultraviolet is dangerous for the eyes. Can speed up the cataract process. “It can interfere with the macular,” explained Ferdiriva when met in Central Jakarta, Saturday.

“Laymen really don’t understand because what has been viral all this time is because gadgets. In fact, according to research, blue light is produced gadgets It is very light and harmless to eyes. “What’s dangerous is the duration,” he continued.

Going deeper, Ferdiriva explained that it took too long to use gadgets It can indeed cause dry eyes, fatigue, and even dizziness. However, this is not caused by the blue light produced by gadgets.

“So when we are in front of a computer for a long time, it can cause dry eyes, fatigue, dizziness and so on. “So it’s not because the blue light produced continues to cause CRAO (central retinal artery occlusion) and so on,” he said.

Ferdiriva suggests that you should not sunbathe after 10 am to avoid ultraviolet rays. If you have to carry out activities under the hot sun, he recommends that people use glasses with UV protection lenses.

“If possible, don’t sunbathe after 10 o’clock. If you’re doing activities outside when it’s hot, it’s better to wear UV protection glasses. “Remember, UV protection is not anti-radiation computer glasses and so on,” explained Ferdiriva.

“Make sure the glasses contain it. Because even though sunglasses are expensive, if they don’t have UV protection they are actually more dangerous. Because when the eyes are dark wearing glasses, the pupils will dilate. So wide, more sunlight can enter the eyes. So there must be a shield. “You can check whether the optics have UV protection,” he added.

Lastly, if you do work that requires you to use gadgets over a long period of time, do the 20-20-20 method.

But if you cannot apply this method, people can rest their eyes every 2 hours when using gadgets.

“There is a 20-20-20 rule. 20 minutes in front of the computer. Rest 20 seconds looking at a distance of 20 feet or 6 meters. “But don’t take a break from looking at TikTok,” explained Ferdiriva.

“In the digital era, we certainly won’t be able to escape it gadgets. Take care with rest. Understand if your eyes are tired. “If you can’t do 20-20-20, take a 15 minute break every 2 hours,” he concluded.
