Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ), which is part of the Sollers group, has added a V8 engine to its catalogue. So far, it is made only in the basic gasoline configuration with the ZMZ-523-42.10 (Euro-4) index. The dual-fuel version ZMZ-524 (gasoline + propane-butane) will return to the catalog later.
Recall that ZMZ resumed production of V8 engines in mid-January. Both versions returned to the conveyor: gasoline ZMZ-523 and bi-fuel ZMZ-524. The engine displacement remains the same – 4.67 liters, and the return, as before, depends on the type of fuel. Running on gasoline, it develops 124 hp. and 298 Nm of torque, and on petrol and propane-butane – 138 hp. and 314 Nm of torque.
The ZMZ-523/524 engine is a deeply modernized version of the ZMZ-53 engine, which has been produced since 1963. It was discontinued at the end of 2021 due to low demand, but has now been brought back for use in buses and other commercial vehicles.
Initially, the ZMZ V8 was used for PAZ buses of the 3205 family, but it is used for the remotorization of commercial vehicles, including GAZon trucks.
