MOMSMONEY.ID – Apple announced that they will implement the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging protocol. However, what is RCS on iPhone?
Please note, RCS has previously been implemented by Android to send messages without being charged credit. So, what is RCS on iPhone?
According to a statement provided to 9to5Mac by an Apple spokesperson, integrating RCS will allow for better interoperability across platforms.
While Apple’s decision to support RCS comes amid pressure from regulators, it brings significant relief to users facing messaging challenges between Android and iOS devices.

So far, the conventional approach to communicating between an iPhone and an Android device has relied on SMS or MMS, which has several drawbacks that the RCS protocol aims to address.
For starters, you can benefit from read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality media transfers, and the ability to send and receive messages over cellular data or Wi-Fi, among other improvements.
Although RCS does not currently have end-to-end encryption, unlike iMessage, Apple has expressed its commitment to collaborating with GSMA to improve the protocol’s security features.
It’s worth noting that the debate between the green bubble and the blue bubble will continue, as iMessage will remain the primary way to communicate with other Apple users.
RCS is expected to serve as the default option for cross-platform messaging while operating alongside SMS and MMS, which Apple says will be available as a backup when needed. RCS texts will also use green bubbles, just like SMS.
