“This January and February there were 14 people who were undergoing outpatient treatment. They are purely gadget addicted, so the dominant one is internet addiction, including games addiction,” said Lina to detikcomTuesday (16/3/2021).
Meanwhile, in 2019, the party has not detailed the data on children who are addicted to devices. However, from existing records, every month in 2019 there were dozens of children undergoing outpatient treatment in various categories.
“There is comorbid data, so it’s a combination of children experiencing mental disorders then they experience gaming addiction or gaming addiction then they experience mental disorders. On average there are around 11 to 12 people a month,” he said.
Cisarua RSJ Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Sub-Specialist Lina Budiyanti added that the majority of parents bring their children for treatment because they are easily agitated if they are prohibited from using cell phones.
“When he is directly prohibited, his emotional expression is very high. He can throw things, he can even threaten with sharp weapons if he doesn’t comply with his requests, such as cell phones and quotas,” he explained.
Lina explained that the COVID-19 pandemic has also contributed to children’s addiction to gadgets, because since the last year online school policies have emerged. So children hold cellphones more.
“Some of those who came to us were made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. So the pandemic didn’t go anywhere. Their parents initially made concessions, because they thought that if they didn’t play games, what would they do? It started from there, but after a while they stopped using them. under control, eventually it becomes an addiction,” he explained.
